What Makes the Best Linen Shirt for Men?
Two linen shirts can look alike on a screen and feel completely different on the skin. Five things matter more than the label.
Fibre content. A shirt sold as "linen" can contain anywhere from 20% to 100% linen. Blends cost less to make but lose much of what makes linen worth buying: airflow, moisture absorption and that crisp, dry feel in humid weather.
Yarn fineness (lea count). Linen yarn is measured in lea. The higher the number, the finer the yarn. Our 60s lea linen drapes cleanly instead of feeling stiff or scratchy.
Fabric weight (GSM). Lighter linen, around 120 to 140 GSM, is coolest in peak summer. Heavier linen, around 150 to 180 GSM, holds its shape better for office wear, travel and mild winters.
Construction. Look at the collar, placket and seams. A well-made linen shirt holds its collar shape through the day and has clean, even stitching that won't pucker after washing.
Fit. Linen doesn't stretch, so fit matters more than with cotton. Check our size guide before you order.
How to Tell If a Shirt Is Real Linen
- Read the label. It should say 100% linen. "Linen look", "linen feel" or no percentage usually means a blend or no linen at all.
- Look for slub. Real linen shows small, natural thick-and-thin lines in the weave. A perfectly smooth, uniform surface is a warning sign.
- Scrunch a corner. Pure linen creases quickly and softly. Synthetic blends spring back almost untouched.
- Feel the temperature. Linen feels cool when you first touch it and stays dry against the skin on a humid day.

100% Linen vs Linen Blend vs Cotton
| 100% Linen | Linen Blend | Cotton | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Breathability | Excellent | Good | Moderate |
| Feel in humid heat | Dry and cool | Softer, slightly less airy | Can cling when damp |
| Wrinkles | Soft, natural creases | Fewer creases | Fewest creases |
| Gets softer over time | Yes, noticeably | Somewhat | Little change |
| Best for | Peak summer, travel, relaxed occasions | Long office days | Year-round, formal settings |
If you prefer a slightly neater finish for long office days, our Off-White Striped Linen Blend Shirt is 95% linen.
A Linen Shirt for Every Indian Season
| Season | Why linen works | How to wear it |
|---|---|---|
| Summer (April to June) | Lets air move through the shirt and dries fast | Light colours, untucked, sleeves rolled |
| Monsoon (July to September) | Dries quicker than cotton and doesn't cling when damp | Darker shades that hide splashes, regular fit |
| Festive and wedding season (October to November) | Stays cool through long celebrations | Richer tones tucked into tailored trousers |
| Mild winter (December to February) | Layers easily without overheating indoors | Over a t-shirt or under a jacket |
Linen Shirts for Men for Every Occasion
For the Office
Choose light, clean colours, tuck the shirt into tailored trousers and add loafers. The White Slim Fit Linen Shirt is an easy weekday choice.
For Weekends and Brunch
Pair a checked or striped linen shirt with chinos or dark denim, roll the sleeves twice and leave the top button open. Try the Blue Checked Linen Shirt.
For Diwali and Festive Evenings
A deeper shade with ethnic or tailored trousers looks dressed up and stays cool through long celebrations. The Black Linen Shirt works well. Linen also makes an easy festive gift.
For Travel and Holidays
Light to pack and quick to dry, with creases that look relaxed rather than untidy. The Off-White Linen Shirt works with shorts on the beach and trousers at dinner.
For Evenings
A navy linen shirt under an unstructured blazer is an easy dinner look. Try the Navy Linen Shirt.
The One to Own First
If you buy only one linen shirt, make it white. The White Linen Shirt goes with everything from denim to tailored trousers.
Find Your Collar
- Button-down: our most popular linen collar. The points button down, so it stays neat open-necked all day.
- Mandarin: a short stand-up collar with no points. Clean and modern, and a natural match for festive and ethnic looks.
- Cutaway and spread: wider collars that sit sharply under a blazer for smarter occasions.
Choosing Your Fit
Most of our linen shirts are cut in a regular fit, which gives room through the chest and waist so air can circulate. Our slim fit styles sit closer to the body for a sharper outline under a jacket. If you are between sizes, the larger size is usually more comfortable in Indian heat, because linen does not stretch.
Linen Creases, and That's the Point
Every pure linen shirt creases. It's what tells you the fibre is real. The creases soften and look more relaxed after a few washes. If you want a crisper look, iron while the shirt is slightly damp; if you prefer the relaxed look, just hang it up and let it be. For fewer creases on long office days, choose a linen blend.
How to Care for Your Linen Shirt
Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent, and skip the bleach. Hot water is the main cause of linen shrinking, so keep it cool. Air dry on a hanger in the shade rather than tumble drying. Good linen gets softer with every wash, so a well-cared-for shirt feels better in its second summer than its first.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which linen shirt is best for men?
The best linen shirts for men are made from 100% linen with a fine yarn, have a well-structured collar, and fit properly through the shoulders. A white or light blue linen shirt in a regular fit is the most versatile place to start.
Is 100% linen better than a linen-cotton blend?
For hot, humid weather, yes. 100% linen breathes better and absorbs moisture faster. Blends crease less and feel slightly softer at first, so some men prefer a blend for long office days.
What does 60s lea linen mean?
Lea is the measure of linen yarn fineness, and a higher lea count means finer yarn. 60s lea linen is lighter, smoother and softer than coarser linen, which is why it drapes well and feels comfortable against the skin.
How can I tell if a shirt is real linen?
Check that the label says 100% linen, look for small natural thick-and-thin lines (slub) in the weave, and scrunch a corner: pure linen creases quickly and softly, while synthetic blends spring back almost untouched.
Do linen shirts wrinkle easily?
Yes. Pure linen creases naturally, which is a sign of real flax fibre. The creases soften after a few washes. Iron while slightly damp for a crisper look, or choose a linen blend if you want fewer creases.
Can I wear linen shirts in monsoon and winter?
Yes. Linen dries faster than cotton and doesn't cling when damp, which helps in monsoon. In the mild winters most Indian cities have, a linen shirt layers easily over a t-shirt or under a jacket.
Can I wear a linen shirt to the office?
Yes. Choose solid, light colours like white, blue or beige, tuck the shirt into tailored trousers and keep accessories minimal. Linen works well in business-casual offices, especially in summer.
Do linen shirts shrink?
Linen can shrink slightly if washed in hot water or tumble dried. Washing in cold water and air drying keeps the shirt true to size.
Do you have linen shirts in plus sizes?
Yes. Our plus size range includes pure linen shirts in sizes up to 7XL.
Do you offer free shipping and returns?
Yes. Shipping is free across India, and you can return unworn items with tags within 7 days of delivery (sale items excluded). Exchanges include a reverse pickup.
